Modified File Backup v7.08

This software is for backing up sets of files in a folder, and optionally all or some subfolders, to any storage device such as an external hard disk, a writeable CD or a memory stick. The source folder structure is, of course, preserved in the backup folder structure.

-- Modified File Backup
can be told to back up only files which have changed since the last backup (thus saving time by not copying files unnecessarily). It will give a report (without doing a backup) of all files which have changed since the last backup. It will also delete all backup files or just those which have become obsolete.

-- Modified File Backup was developed based on the assumption that one normally wishes to back up several different sets of files and to do this frequently (maybe every day). Thus it is possible to save a particular configuration or setup in a setup file. When you wish to do a particular backup you simply load the appropriate setup file and request the program to back up all files which have been modified, or are new, since the last backup.

Features

-- Specifying the Files to be Backed Up
Files to be backed up are specified as the files in a particular folder plus files in selected subfolders of that folder. First you select a folder, called the source folder, then you select a set of subfolders (if any) of that folder. The set of files to be backed up then consists of all files in the source folder (unless you exclude these) plus all files in the selected subfolders plus all files in subfolders of those folders.

-- Specifying Where the Files are to be Backed Up To
The target folder is the folder to which the files in the source folder (and included subfolders) will be copied. The source folder is not copied as a subfolder of the target folder. Specify the target folder by clicking on the 'Target folder' button, similar to the selection of the top-level source folder.

-- The Two Report Operations
Most operations produce reports, but two of them simply report, without doing any backup or deletion. These two are:
1 . Listing subfolders of the source folder
2 . Checking the backup state

-- The Three Backup Operations
You can back up:
1 . All files
2 . Only new and modified files or
3 . Only files which are new or have been modified within a number of days from today.

-- The Four Deletion Operations
The four deletion operations are:
1 . Empty the target folder
2 . Delete all backup files without overwriting
3 . Delete all backup files with overwriting
4 . Delete obsolete backup files and folders

-- Saving and Loading Setup Files
As stated at the beginning, this software is intended for regular backup of multiple sets of files, and this is accomplished by setting up the parameters for a particular backup operation and then saving those parameters in a setup file. When the backup operation is to be repeated then the setup file can be loaded and there is no need to set up the parameters again.
